Raspberry Pi PoE+ Injector expands industrial applications

Astradis Elektronik is observing increasing demand for clearly specified power supply and network concepts for industrial embedded and edge systems.

Power over Ethernet is increasingly establishing itself as the technical basis for centrally supplied, low-maintenance installations in OT and IT networks. With the introduction of the new PoE injector, Raspberry Pi is expanding its platform ecosystem with a clearly defined infrastructure component and enabling easy integration of Power over Ethernet supply even in existing networks where no PoE-capable switches are used.

For industrial applications, a stable PoE supply is not a convenience feature, but part of the system design. It enables a clean separation of power and control levels, simplifies installations in control cabinets, and reduces sources of error in distributed edge nodes. Astradis Elektronik consistently regards Raspberry Pi as an industrial platform that is suitable for applications such as edge gateways, panel PCs, remote I/O units, industrial HMIs, or monitoring systems in production and infrastructure environments.

ABOUT THE RASPBERRY PI POE+ INJECTOR FROM RASPBERRY PI:

  • Supports IEEE 802.3af (PoE 13 W) and IEEE 802.3at (PoE+ 25 W): enables universal use with common industrial PoE devices.
  • Mains voltage range 100–240 V: compatible with global power supply systems – relevant for international series approvals.
  • Midspan operation with existing switches: no network infrastructure adaptation necessary, reduces CAPEX and risk in retrofit projects.
  •  Compatible with all Raspberry Pi boards from 2018 onwards with PoE or PoE+ HAT: facilitates project maintenance across multiple device generations.
